About the Nooksack Indian Tribe
The Nooksack Indian Tribe is a federally recognized Native American tribe located in Washington State. Their homeland encompasses the Nooksack River watershed, stretching from the Georgia Strait to Mount Baker and from the Canadian border to Skagit County. The tribe’s name originates from a term in their language meaning “always bracken fern roots.” The governing body of the tribe is the Tribal Council, composed of eight elected officials.
About the Fort Belknap Indian Community
The Fort Belknap Indian Community is a reservation in Montana, covering 675,147 acres. The primary industry within the reservation is agriculture, including cattle ranching, alfalfa hay production, and dryland farming. The community is governed by the Fort Belknap Indian Community Council, responsible for the health, security, and welfare of its members.
