GCS was engaged by the City of Billings, Montana—the largest city in the state—to develop a user-friendly Cemetery Plot Locator web application. The primary goal of this application is to assist the public in easily locating cemetery plots by providing clear directions and essential information.

Key Features of the Cemetery Plot Locator
- Name Search Functionality: Users can quickly find cemetery plots by entering a last name and selecting from a list of matches.
- Interactive Map: The application includes a readable plot map with various navigation tools, such as zoom in, zoom out, and zoom to full extent.
- Identify Tool: By clicking on a plot, users can view detailed information, including the Name, Section, and Lot, displayed above the map.
- Cartography Services: GCS provided comprehensive cartography services, designing map layers, symbology, labeling, and scale dependencies to enhance the user experience.
- Create PDF Feature: Once users locate a plot, they can download a hardcopy map and plot information by clicking the “Create PDF of Map” button.
Originally built in 2005 as an ASP.NET ArcIMS Web Application, the Cemetery Plot Locator utilizes an ArcIMS Map Service for efficient map rendering and data display.
