GCS partnered with the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) to develop a cutting-edge NextGen Forestry Timber Cruising application, built on ArcGIS Enterprise concepts and architecture. The NextGen Cruising app provides a web-based interface for cruise design and reporting, with advanced tools for plot allocation, data validation, and compilation, powered by Python Geoprocessing modules.

The system utilizes ArcGIS Portal to manage hosted services and web maps, enabling offline data collection through the ArcGIS Field Maps mobile app. This solution revolutionizes CSKT’s timber inventory process for over 1.3 million acres of Flathead Reservation lands, promoting sustainable forestry practices and maximizing long-term revenue from timber sales.

Key Features and Benefits of NextGen Timber Cruiser
- Custom GIS Tools: Developed to enhance timber inventory management, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
- Mobile Data Collection: ArcGIS Field Maps enables efficient, real-time data capture in the field, streamlining workflow.
- Sustainable Forest Management: Designed to balance revenue generation with environmental stewardship, promoting healthy and diverse forests on the Flathead Reservation.
- Geoprocessing Enhancements: Added functionality includes proposed harvest units, old-growth cruise design, regen cruise design, flexible plot allocation, and individual tree volume calculation.
