GCS developed the Montana Control Point Database (MCPD) application for the Montana Geodetic Control Working Group. The goals of the application are to provide Montana’s land surveyors with a means to store and manage their geodetic and mapping points that are not part of the National Geodetic Survey’s (NGS) database and to provide the public with free access to reliable, up-to-date geodetic and mapping control.
GCS used ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, Google Maps and StreetView, and Microsoft technologies.

Users can search and download survey and mapping control points.
There are two main components to the MCPD: the public viewer and the data loader. The viewer application allows users to search and download the records. The data loader is secured by a log-in, for use by licensed surveyors. Their uploaded point data is reviewed and verified by a qualified technician before it is incorporated into the released public dataset. For added convenience, GCS Research outfitted the data to provide copies of the Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB) of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and links to the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) control point datasheets.
