GCS successfully completed the State Parks Kiosks Project for the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (MFWP). This project involved the comprehensive digitization of various geographic features across all of Montana’s 50 State Parks, including:
- Park Boundaries
- Roads
- Buildings (Restrooms, Shelters, Cabins)
- Boat Ramps
- Campgrounds
- Streams and Lakes
- Points of Interest
- Trails

Project Deliverables
The digitized data was provided in several formats, including:
- Electronic Geodatabase
- Adobe Illustrator Files for use by the MFWP graphics department
- Hard Copy Maps

GCS Research utilized the “heads-up” digitizing method with ESRI ArcGIS ArcMap software. The digitization process incorporated background base map data from the Montana State Library’s Natural Resource Information System (NRIS), which included:
- USGS Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs)
- Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangles (DOQQs)
- High-Resolution Satellite Imagery from GCS Research’s existing archive (Digital Globe QuickBird)

Each digitized feature was accompanied by detailed attribute information, defined by MFWP, such as:
- ADA Accessibility Status
- Feature/Facility Type
- Feature Name
All features were delivered as an ESRI personal geodatabase in the Montana State Plane projection, North American Datum 1983, with units in meters. Additionally, GCS Research generated FGDC-compliant metadata for each feature class within the geodatabase and provided georeferenced JPEG images of the Kiosk Map graphics.
