THE SI ORGANIZATION

IDEAS Smart Engine connects the user to a product, and the underlying geospatial model and data to create that product, through a powerful and intuitive web interface.

The SI Organization, which spun off from Lockheed Martin Corp., has officially rebranded itself as Vencore.

Problem:

The SI Organization came to GCS in the Fall of 2010 to discuss the development of a highly customized, high performance system of systems Cloud architecture for an ambitious global geospatial marketplace.  The SI was interested in delivering complex problem-solving services on demand with the ability to support rapid application development to a broad range of public and private sector clients.  The problem required a cutting-edge, next-generation solution to address the delivery, monetization, and productization of global information systems.

Solution:

GCS delivered the concept of IDEAS: Intelligent Data Exploitation and Analytics System.  The IDEAS Smart Engine connects the user to a product, and the underlying geospatial model and data to create that product, through a powerful and intuitive web interface. Crafting the IDEAS prototype began in March 2012.

The GCS team identified, integrated, and applied technologies from Microsoft, IBM, and Esri, with custom GCS code for database, middle-ware, and advanced, intuitive user interface.

The prototype was built around GCS’ complex algorithm development and web services delivery model in close association with the SI requirements. When IDEAS was activated on Oct. 31, 2012, the SI successfully demonstrated to clients the vision and concept of the system – a union of advanced IT and geospatial big data – and validated its value to stakeholders.  GCS began scoping  and work on a follow-on phase of the IDEAS project in January 2013, to move the system beyond proof-of-concept.
